Tour of Missouri Wineries and Midwest Cheeses
We are “taking” you through 4 incredible locations in Missouri that have some of our finest local wines and pairing them with the perfect pairings of Midwest Cheeses. However, you don’t have to do ANY of the work of which cheeses or wines to get. We have the WHOLE guide below! As well as the cutest idea to set up the “tour” on your own cheese board! We are leveling up your cheese board this Valentine’s Day season!
The Setup is KEY to a Fun Twist on your “Classic” Cheese Board!
Set up your board like you are traveling through Missouri! Stop at each city, enjoy the pairings from that city, and vote on which one is your favorite. Sip & savor your way through the state! I would love to know which pairing is your favorite! You will need the 7 wines mentioned below and the 7 cheeses– then you are set! Follow the map below.
- Your first stop on your Tour of Missouri Wineries is Augusta, Missouri. Augusta was recognized as the first U.S Wine district for a variety of reasons including their climate, soil and high quality of wines from their vineyards! We will be enjoying 3 wines from Augusta Wineries and 3 perfect Midwest Cheese pairings!
- Cheese: Smoked Gouda from Marcoot Jersey Creamery in Greenville, Illinois
Wine: Montelle Winery’s Chardonel
- Cheese: Gorgonzola from AmaGorg in Faribault, Minnesota
Wine: Augusta Winery’s Norton
- Cheese: Feta from Odyssey in Monroe, Wisconsin
Wine: Noboleis Vineyards Traminette
- Second stop of the night is Herman, Missouri. Herman has the country’s oldest continuously family owned winery; Adam Puchta Winery and a world class winery since 1847; Stone Hill.
- Cheese: Pepper Jack Cheese from Borden in Kansas City, Kanasa
Wine: Adam Puchta Winery’s Vignoles
- Cheese: Brie from Tulip Tree Creamery in Indianapolis
Wine: Stone Hill Winery’s Chambourcin
- Third stop of your trip is Rocheport, Missouri. Rocheport is home to the beautiful winery of Les Bourgeois Vineyard. It has some of the most beautiful hill top views and is family owned/operated.
- Cheese: Swiss Cheese or Gruyere Bliss from Schnabeltier in Indianapolis
Wine: Les Bourgeois Vineyards Sweet Rose
- Last but certainly not least location of your tour is St. James, Missouri. (Which happens to be my favorite pairing!) St. James Winery sells over 200,000 cases of delicious wines a year in the Midwest Region.
- Cheese: Cheddar Cheese from Milton Creamery in Milton, Iowa
Wine: St. James Winery’s Concord

One of my favorite recipes comes from above for a delicious caramelized onion jam that I made to go with these MUST MAKE Cheddar Caramelized Onion Flatbreads
A Must Make Flatbread to go With Your Cheeseboard!
In the amazing Cheese & Missouri Wine pairing brochure from above is the delicious caramelized onion jam recipe, that I then created these delicious flatbreads with! This recipe pairs perfectly with Missouri Norton wine. Cheddar & Norton are a perfect pair!
Cheddar Caramelized Onion Flatbreads
Ingredients
- 1 cup Caramelized Onion Jam from the free PDF Download ABOVE THIS RECIPE CARD. A Guide to Cravable Cheese Pairings and Cheese Boards
- 14 oz cheese curds cheddar cheese or swiss cheese
- 4 3oz Flatbreads/ Naan Bread
Instructions
- Spread the Caramalized Onion spread on the flatbreads, sprinkle one of the cheeses above on top.
- Bake at 425 degrees for 8-10 minutes & boil on high for 2 minutes until cheese begins to get that golden brown on top! Cut & serve!!
