How Easy is it to make Easy Hot Honey Roasted Brussel Sprouts
This side is so simple to make and requires less than 40 minutes from start to finish. You want to make the hot honey sauce as the Brussel Sprouts are roasting, because you will get done with the sauce and let it cool off the heat on the stove top in order to thicken a bit before you pour the sauce over those roasted bad boys!
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray a large baking sheet with olive oil and place it INSIDE the oven You want the sheet to be in there heating up with the olive oil while you are prepping the Brussel Sprouts and while the oven is preheating.
- Cut the ends of your Brussel Sprouts off and then slice in half long ways. Add to large bowl. Pour 1/4 cup olive oil over them. Then sprinkle with 1 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp paprika, 1/2 tsp onion powder and 1/4 tsp pepper. Toss until evenly coated.
- Once the oven is preheated, add the seasoned Brussel Sprouts to baking sheet, spread evenly and roast for 30 minutes.
- While the Brussel Sprouts are roasting you will make the hot honey sauce. In a sauce pan add in 1/3 cup hot honey. Bring to medium heat, once it starts to bubble take your whisk and whisk it continuously for 2 minutes. It should start to bubble a lot and turn a more light golden brown color.
- After 2 minutes of whisking take it off the heat, but don’t turn off the burner. Pour in the red wine vinegar, garlic and ghee/butter. It will make a sizzling reaction so don’t worry. Then add back to heat.
- Continue to whisk continuously with the mixture back on the medium heat burner, for 2 more minutes. It should start to bubble again vigorously.
- Take off heat and let cool while the Brussel Sprouts finish roasting
- While sauce is cooling. Take a frying pan and add your raw pine nuts, pour in even layer. On medium low heat, toast the pine nuts occasionally tossing for 5 minutes until they turn golden brown. Then take off heat.
- Once Brussel Sprouts are done add back to the bowl you tossed the Brussel Sprouts in, add in all the toasted pine nuts, then pour the hot honey sauce on top. Toss and then place on serving plate, crumble goat cheese on top and devour!
Tips for Roasting Brussel Sprouts
Here are my top tips for roasting Brussel Sprouts. Sometimes when you don’t follow the tips below, you will get over done burnt tasting Brussel Sprouts or soggy Brussel Sprouts OR just bland. These tips help your Brussel Sprouts from getting soggy, burnt or bland! They are not hard to make, and now you will have the keys for success!
Olive Oil or Avocado Oil
Just like when you roast any veggies it is important to have the right amount of oil to keep them from getting soggy in the oil as well as being able to roast right. Brussel Sprouts do not soak up oils as fast like other porous veggies, so 1/4 cup per 2 pounds is perfect for coating. Both avocado oil & olive oil are perfect for roasting at 400 degrees because of their smoke point.
Seasoning
Brussel Sprouts do have a more “bitter” taste as a vegetable, so the seasoning has to be on point! A combination of salt, garlic, onion, paprika and pepper is perfection. It is also a great base seasoning when roasting in general but goes so well with the hot honey in this recipe.
Pre-heated baking dish
If you notice I have you guys preheat the baking dish with oil ahead of time. Why? Since every oven is different it can have different hot spots. Hot spots are areas where it heats up faster than others. We do not want this when wanting to evenly roast our Brussel Sprouts. In order to prevent the hot spots from unevenly cooking our Brussel Sprouts preheating the baking sheet is key.
Right time & temperature
Who knew all these elements go into account for the perfect roasting? It does seem silly and maybe tedious. But it isn’t I promise! 400 degrees cooks Brussel Sprouts perfectly, roasted to golden brown in 30 minutes without over cooking.
Delicious toppings & sauces
If you have not had pine nuts & goat cheese together… the time is now! I wanted a bit of a crunch in this side dish, when recipe testing it needed that one last ingredient. For me it was between pecans & pine nuts. The toasted pine nuts just sent it home! Then with hot honey & Brussel Sprouts.. it is a combination I cannot wait for you to be obsessed with like us.
