This is one of those healthy snack recipes where I look at myself and think… “Alaina…. what were you thinking, when this is the FIRST time you tried making Apple Chips?!” I think I am officially hooked. Actually I don’t think.. I KNOW. Can anyone else not believe that this Fall ( yes I am saying Fall already hahah) is the first time I have recipe tested Apple Chips!? I always love to buy them, but I always intimated to make them because I didn’t have a dehydrator and thought well it takes a long time in the oven so nah.
Okay get all those ideas out of your head if you were like me and make these right away! They are SO stinking good. Have the PERFECT crisp and are the best healthy snack. I mean they have 3 ingredients…. 3! Plus you can mix up the spices to even make more Fall like ones too. Honestly the options are endless with these babies.
Therefore, all you need is the basic recipe and you are good to go!
Let’s Get Started!
So wait… 3 ingredients until Apple Chips are ready..are you serious?
Hahaha, yes I am! Here are the 3 ingredients you need for this recipe:
Apples
Cinnamon
Coconut Sugar
The end. 🙂
*** Now I have made them this way cannot steer away from the classic.. however the next batch I am going to make this weekend I am going to try a pumpkin spice twist– so look out for my feedback on that OR if you try a different flavor combo please let me know!
Tools Needed?
This can be done with NO fancy tools! I do not use a fancy apple corer or mandolin to make it. Unfortunately, my mandolin makes them too thin, so I just cut them carefully. You do need to make sure you don’t cut them too thick or they won’t get super crispy. Below I show you the thickness– it is easy to cut yourself. For instance, I just take a knife and core out the middle myself as pictured too. So don’t feel like you need fancy-ish tools to put this together 🙂 You got this!
Core the apples with a sharp knife or apple corer
Slice the apples thin with sharp knife or mandolin
Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar
3 Ingredient Healthy Apple Chips
Ingredients
- 3 Gala Apples Prefer Gala because they are nice and sweet, but still have a tart taste after baked
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp coconut sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees
- On cut board place your 3 apples. Take knife and carefully core out the center of your apples. Making sure it goes straight through the center, but does not break the apple. You want them intact so when you slice you have perfect rounds. Or use an apple corer which we prefer to use!
- Now you will get to slicing your apple chips! Anything thicker than 1/8 will still be OH so yummy, however they won't be super crispy. So now you slice the apples horizontally in 1/8 inch slices. Then layer them evenly on 2 Sil Pats or 2 baking sheets lined with parchment paper. You can also you a mandalion, that makes it so much easier and the thickness consistent.
- Next either put your cinnamon and coconut sugar in a shaker or mix in a small bowl and sprinkle over the tops of the apple slices.
- Place the racks in the oven and bake for 1 hour. Then remove the baking sheets and switch racks. Bake for another 1-1 1/2 hours. Our old oven was 1 more hour, but our new oven takes 1 1/2 hours. To test if they are ready take one out and let it cool for about 2 minutes, if it is the crispness you desire you are good to go to the next step. The time will also depend on the thickness of your apple slices so make sure you test them.
- If you are happy with your “test chip” turn off the oven and let the slices cool in the oven for an hour to get to optimal crispness.
