I think we can all agree that we are in need of extra holiday cheer as soon as possible. The year 2020 has been quite… I don’t know how to put it, let’s just say, a year that none of us will ever forget. That is why we are putting up our holiday decorations earlier than normal…. I mean judgements on putting a Christmas tree up before Thanksgiving? hahah well judge away! Already starting the Hallmark movies? KEEP judging! Light a fire in the fire place and pour a Festive Spiked Butterscotch Egg Nog? Now that, you cannot judge… instead, you need to try it asap!
***I recommend actually trying ALL of the above 😉

And that is IT! Crazy how easy right? This will be a holiday after dinner drink that will constantly be on repeat in your house!
Where does “eggnog” come from?
Culinary historians argue about where eggnog originated from, but it is thought to have originated as far back as the 13 century. Milk, eggs and sherry were food of the wealthy, so eggnog was often used in toast to property, wealth and good fortune! I mean doesn’t that REALLY scream that we need to be drinking this in 2020 in hopes we can bring some of that to light? I think so!
Did you know even our first president George Washington had a signature eggnog recipe, that would quite literally knock your socks off. This is not a joke, this was said to have been his words exactly!
GEORGE WASHINGTON’S CHRISTMAS EGGNOG RECIPE
“One quart cream, one quart milk, one dozen tablespoons sugar, one pint brandy, ½ pint rye whiskey, ½ pint Jamaica rum, ¼ pint sherry
—mix liquor first,
then separate yolks and whites of 12 eggs,
add sugar to beaten yolks,
mix well.
Add milk and cream, slowly beating.
Beat whites of eggs until stiff and fold slowly into mixture.
Let set in cool place for several days.
Taste frequently.”
The Almanac
Hahahahah I do not know what is better, the ” TASTE FREQUENTLY” , “Pints” of alcohol OR “1 dozen tablespoons of sugar.” I’m sorry to disappoint my recipe is not that intense, but I promise it will still give you a warm buzz and holiday cheer!
