6 Yummy Ingredients Away From: Chocolate Covered Strawberry Overnight Oats
I think right away if you hear that you are making these over night oats with chocolate milk your original thought might be dang that is going to be a lot of sugar. However, it all depends on the ingredients you get– like all else! So for example this chocolate milk we are using in this recipe only has 6grams of added sugar in 1 cup as well as 13 grams of protein! We usually always use a sweetener for our over night oats either honey or maple syrup etc. so this recipe has a lot less sugar than most! Are Overnight Oats Healthy?
What are overnight oats? Overnight oats is thought to have originated from a type of popular breakfast throughout Switzerland and Germany in the 1900s. A Swiss physician Maximilian Bircher-Brenner use to make a thing called “Bircher Muesli” for his patients and is still a very popular breakfast throughout. The recipe usually called for more fresh fruit than grain and just like our overnight oats: soaked the raw oats overnight since they took some time to soften.
Why soak the oats overnight? Overnight oats are a different way to prepare oatmeal by letting it soak overnight rather than cook with heat. They are known to be easier to digest than regular oatmeal as well. Now that we know where they originated from and why we soak them, lets get to 4 deliciously amazing reasons why you need to be eating Chocolate Covered Strawberry Overnight Oats for breakfast!
1. There are so many way so to be creative
There are so many ways to mix up your overnight oat combinations! A lot of times overnight oat recipes call for yogurt, however I feel like that can make it pretty thick. My recommendation is always milk of choice! Mashing a banana for natural sweetener is always a winner as well as toasted nuts. Always just make sure you have a 1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats & 1 cup milk of choice. Then add in your add ins!
2. Helps save you time and money
This recipe is together in less than 5 minutes & oats are relatively inexpensive. Also this recipe keep you energized & full longer, which keeps you from snacking non stop, which then it turns saves us money! Such a win, winA!
3. Quick & Easy
I love how quick and easy these overnight oat recipes are. My daughter is 4 and so it is so fun for her to have recipes that she can make herself. We all need a quick and easy option in the kitchen. Not to mention having these always on hand, will make sure you always have healthy breakfast at your finger tips!
4. All the health benefits!
Research shows that healthy packed carbs like oats are perfect for increasing energy levels and mood, as well as healthy weight loss. Oats have a great amount of fiber called beta glucan, which aids in healthy heart, lowering cholesterol. Oats have a great source of protein, iron, thiamin, phosphorus and selenium, and are also a great source of manganese and magnesium. Like I mentioned above with overnight oats being more digestible after being soaked overnight, that means you absorb the nutrients more!

I love overnight oats but needed a different flair. Your suggestion to use milk vs yogurt works so well. Also chocolate milk was pure genius. I subbed blueberries and raspberries because that’s what was in the fridge. Perfect oat to liquid proportion. I made this into 1 portion instead of 2 because it didn’t seem like it would be enough, but I was full through lunch.
